Wild version 0.11.0 is out. It contains a heap of work by a lot of people. The biggest new feature is the Wasm port, which is now enabled by default with some great performance! The Mach-O port isn't yet enabled by default but is getting close. I'm already using it as my default linker on Mac. On Linux, we've got many bug fixes as well as new features like proper COMDAT support. We also fixed the performance problems that were affecting writes to file systems like ext4 and on systems with more than 32 logical CPUs.

One option is Rust. A lot of effort went into https://phprust.com already. I hope more people will contribute to that project, especially PHP core developers.
Otherwise, vulnerability after vulnerability PHP's market share will continue to shrink. Breaches will affect many lives. Patches will become more and more complex.
