Thank you to 801 Labs for hosting Ham In A Day yesterday.

13 people spent a full day learning radio with the Ham Radio Village. 11 passed their license exams and are now licensed amateur radio operators.

New hams: welcome! Your callsign shows up in the FCC ULS a few days after you pay the $35 fee. Come say hi on our Discord: discord.gg/hrv

JawnCon 0x3 opens today at 8:30 AM. @jawncon

If you've been playing with an RTL-SDR or HackRF, catch "ham for hackers" by Ham Radio Village's own Ed Wilson at 2:30 PM on the main stage. Receiving is fine. A license lets you transmit legally, build your own gear, and use up to 1,500 watts.

Then get licensed. We're testing all weekend, just ask, or join Saturday's 9 AM study session and 1 PM exams.

Taking your first ham exam at JawnCon on Saturday? Two things before you show up:

1. Skim KB6NU's No-Nonsense Technician study guide. It's free:
https://www.kb6nu.com/study-guides/

2. Get an FCC Registration Number (FRN). It's free and takes a few minutes:
https://www.fcc.gov/wireless/support/knowledge-base/universal-licensing-system-uls-resources/getting-fcc-registration

Then come to the 9 AM study session and sit the exam at 1 PM.

Exam day at JawnCon.

9 AM: study session in the HAM classroom
12 PM: lunch
1 PM: free license exams, Laurel VEC

Walk in at 9 knowing nothing, walk out a ham. That happens at these sessions more than you'd think.

Last day of JawnCon, and your last chance to get licensed with us this year in Philly. Open testing today, just ask any of us.

Also worth your morning: "Paging in 2026" with Mike Dank and Naveen Albert, 11 AM on the main stage. It covers DAPNET, the decentralized paging network hams run on cheap and surplus hardware.
