Good thread

This is tough post. I’m grown. If you don’t like what I write or say, let’s talk about it. What I can’t abide is the #ghosting. It’s cowardly. I’ve no interest in or time for retribution. I’ll leave that for the president & his minions. I’m attempting to build something grand wit

Mural of Harriett Tubman in Cambridge MD. Tubman is standing in a boat and reaching out her hand as if to help you into the boat. A brown man with a beard and a walking stick and a brown woman are standing in front of Ms. Tubman’s outstretched hand

just watched Bill Gross from IdeaLab in Pasadena get on stage and talk about giving away 1.2 million business ideas for free; his vision is 1 million new businesses and 100 million new jobs. https://idealab.ai/ and see Fortune’s Eye on AI https://view.mail.fortune.com/?qs=ACN7ImQiOjUwMzUsInQiOjc4NzUsInAiOiJWVyIsInMiOjEzfQANAAAAAAFylk3znohdAgzTMLaZpFIXzmNp0mKFPdHgvSqj3ouhqPHIgNIN78VJH1yuYJsuQanAvPEAtxH1Zl7XIl6ewcddRyPlGP0UK0-4_fhZU5D8jfUE&utm_source=sfmc&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=NL_eye-on-ai_2026-10-20_171599&utm_term=eye-on-ai&sfmc_id=15837388

Have debated publishing this; it sat as a draft today and I’ve been chewing on it. Here goes:

I am pondering AI as a democratizing force (dare I say, a driver of accessibility) — enabling users to define the outcomes that matter for their work, without the barrier to entry of needing to be bilingual first. Knowing how to code has been a gatekeeping situation that prevents people from using computers to achieve the outcomes they care about for a long time. Every advancement that enabled more access to more users (from low level languages, to compilers, to the GUI, to auto-completing code editors and collaboration tools) has faced pushback. AI is unique from that list in its ancillary costs (which are very significant), but I think shares some of the general trend of the history of abstractions making computing more accessible to more people (and seeing pushback from the existing crowd of users who “did it the hard way”).

Interesting development from Cloudflare — a fully programmable secure web gateway (embed your own program logic inline at the point of a security decision, instead of needing to call out to some other separate piece of infrastructure). There are a lot of times in the past 20 years I could have used something like this (and back in the day, iRules on F5 did exactly this!) https://blog.cloudflare.com/programmable-gateway-dlp/
