Log monitoring is for losers.
Automating your SOC is stupid.

I do a fair amount of custom work for people when a loved one dies: unlocking computers, data recovery, and account recovery (Advice: keep paying their cell phone bill until you've got all their data back).

In 2007 I did a technology cost comparison for one of my small business clients. I recommended changing their phone provider, Internet provider, and web hosting service. The result was a savings of $189/month, or over $2,200/year. A couple of years later they had grown to the point where they started using in-house tech support, so they stopped being a regular client. I’m still in touch with them for special projects. I learned that in 2025 they switched telecom and Internet providers again.
How much did they save as a result of my work in 2007? I did the math: 18 years x $2,200 = $39,600 total savings. I earned my money for that technology cost analysis.
