We can’t always control what happens in life, but we’re in control of who we choose to be in the space of what’s happening.

Until 1993, women in the US weren't required to be included in clinical trials. In 1977, the FDA went further and recommended excluding women of childbearing age from early-stage drug trials altogether.

Our hormones were considered too "complicated," so researchers studied men and assumed the results would apply to us.
That's a big part of why so much of what we know about medication doses, heart attack symptoms and even basic physiology is based on male bodies. It's also why something as common as endometriosis still takes an average of 7 to 10 years to diagnose, and why so many women are told their symptoms are normal, stress-related or in their head.

The menstrual cycle isn't a complication to design around. It's a vital sign, and it affects how we sleep, train, metabolise and respond to medication. We need a perspective shift in research so our health isn't treated as something unimportant or secondary.
