Dear lazyweb: I have gone down the research rabbit hole but am lost in finding a good answer. If I was looking for a pair of FRS radios, what should I look for - any recommendations/suggestions? I was hoping to pick up a pair at #Pacificon but came up empty
Use Case: In my network wiring project or yard work, it would be hella easier to pull out a radio & communicate with the better half that is helping than grabbing and dialing the phone. Neither of us have ham licenses, and that seems to be overkill.
IIRC we have a FRS radio around somewhere – a single one, not sure if it works.
Would GMRS be a better option, even with the license overhead & privacy implications of the registration details?
I am eyeballing some used combination FRS & GMRS radios, since they are no longer approved for sale by the #FCC and appear to be cheaper (and just not use the GMRS channels until licensed).
