Today I learned that the Celtic festival of Samhain, which was Christianised into "All Hallows Evening", should be pronounced, 'SOW-in". Irish is always a wild ride.
I have no religious faith but I like the idea of marking and celebrating the transition between seasons. I don't find pagan beliefs more unbelievable than other religions. The idea that sudden, irreversible changes are a time of increased danger matches my experience.

I was also reminded that Celtic days ran from sunset to sunset. I heard that first last Beltane. Such party people.
