Japan's communications ministry asked telecom carriers to block the site where GMO's attackers posted customer data. Blocking touches the constitutional secrecy of communications. It has been used only against child abuse images since 2011, and a 2018 push against manga piracy stalled.
The site went down through its domain first. In our view, the precedent matters more than the outcome: a request letter, no legal basis, no public criteria.
