I was curious about the development and evolution of antisemitism in the Middle East and learned about the Farhud, a pogrom against the Jewish community of Baghdad (Iraq). I wasn't aware of the Nazi-sympathizing nationalists who ruled Iraq at that time, how they were overthrown by the British (mainly to maintain access to oil), and how the British refusal to enter Baghdad after its surrender led to riots and the murder of Jewish community members:
[…] killing helpless Jews, including women and children, was an unprecedented phenomenon that contradicted Muslim law. In this situation, antisemitic ideology, derived in part from Nazi propaganda, helped to legitimize murdering Jews in Iraq.

As if middle east hasn't always been pregnant with religious tensions, the Nazis and the Brits had to push the limits as well.
