As much as I like fearmongering to stop the slope from slipping i don’t necessarily agree with the stopping of it
So like first off the bat there is an opt out idk why they said there wasn’t. You just enable developer mode and wait 24 hours
The problem wth this is why I have a problem with Google. Enabling developer mode is known to break some secure apps like some banking apps. This is a Google security feature and it is deliberately meant to lock you in. Enable side loading and break your apps.
This is a broader issue of Google breaking functionality on custom roms like lineage and graphene os, and making it more difficult and a hassle to “degoogle” to whatever extent you can on Android.
There’s a conflict of security where Google play is kind of the Wild West where you can find fake clones of popular apps and mistakenly download malware onto your phone instead of the app you wanted. But at the same time Google play is theory secure way to distribute applications. Google play attestation is also present on many applications now such as balatro for some reason, blocking it on graphene os even if you download it from the google play store after legitimately purchasing it.
So in googles ideal world you are not sideloading applications and you are only using Google play with a googled proprietary Android rom they approve of. That’s the only way to retain full functionality on your phone when this goes into effect.
So at the end of the day you either make sacrifices to spite Google and let them cuck you out of features you should be eligible for, or you let them take full control of your phone and run whatever the hell they want to on “your” device.
So much for that “openness” people keep talking about on Android.
