A hoverfly drinks from a purple chia flower.

This Chia plant sowed itself in the backyard in a spare pot waiting for something new to grow in it. It must have escaped the compost container on the way to the bin. I waited many weeks to find out what plant the little sprout was because I had never seen one before. Now I’m wondering how much seed might come from a single plant. Looking forward to finding out.
