A friend made a similar comment, to paraphrase, “if you write your own code you are a dinosaur”. I told him I wrote my own code and proceeded to the bar.
When he came by later and asked why I wrote code myself I just said that if I didn’t understand the code I putting into a project I wouldn’t use it until I had learned and understood what it did.
