Okay, #APRS sucks. The number of variations I have tried on my setup so far to make it work is insane. No mature technology should be this hard to get working.
Thinking about testing at SAINTCON 26? Two things first:
1. Study. Start at https://hamvillage.org/study, KB6NU's free No-Nonsense guide, or the free HamBook (https://hambook.org) by Utah's own KD7BBC.
2. Get your FCC Registration Number (FRN). It's free: https://www.fcc.gov/wireless/support/knowledge-base/universal-licensing-system-uls-resources/getting-fcc-registration
Then register and swing by the Ham Radio Community for exam times:

Ham Radio Village patches will be at the SAINTCON 26 Swap Meet tonight.

#hamchallenge week 44 - Find and identify an unknown radio signal
Tune around the spectrum and find a signal you cannot immediately identify. Use a waterfall, a spectrum analyzer, online databases, or a SDR software to figure out what you're hearing. Where did you find the signal? What clues helped you identify it? What modulation or protocol did it use? Share a waterfall screenshot and explain your reasoning.

Why ham radio at a hacker con?
Ham radio is the original hacker and maker culture. RF skills carry straight into RFID, Wi-Fi and wireless security work, and a license turns your receive-only SDR habit into legally transmitting, building and testing your own gear, at up to 1,500 W.
Come ask us anything at the Ham Radio Community at SAINTCON 26, powered by Ham Radio Village.
Free Ham In A Day class at SAINTCON 26 today: 8:15 AM sharp, Floor 2 lounge (north end).

Then get licensed. We're testing all weekend, just ask, or join Saturday's 9 AM study session and 1 PM exams.
