Oh hey, I wrote a book review of Brut by Sam Tallent
📚 I just finished reading Gunship Ace
by Al J. Venter
An absolutely fascinating book about a Rhodesian guy who became a helicopter pilot and flew them all over the world, seeing many conflicts up close. Besides learning about his adventures I now somehow know a lot about how to fly a helicopter in all kinds of adverse conditions.
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5 stars)

I've been reading some #horror #books for Spooky Season, and then watching different versions of movies based on them. For example, Carrie, with the OG movie and the new mini series.
Currently reading Rosemary's Baby.
Which got me thinking: Are there any Fedi #bookclubs ?
Could get all fancy with a virtual hangout on a schedule, or just a time folks post their thoughts in a thread.
Anyone on #Bookstodon doing this? Or interested in doing this?
Just finished reading Ode to the Half-Broken by Suzanne Palmer, read by Traci Odom.
It was perfect. A story about a motley found family of humans, bots, and a cyborg dog. Half-broken characters in a half-broken world yet again on the brink.
The ending made me cry, but a good cry. An ending that was earned, but made me want more.

Writing from four different perspectives in Crystals of Ulstra has stretched me and helped me grow as a writer. I’ve loved diving in deep with all four characters. And naturally, I’m planning to add two new POVs in the sequel. Sure, why not?!

It’s so surreal seeing your own book on an ereader! Crystals of Ulstra is coming out so soon 👀
On a side note, if you want to learn some more about Hoodoo and how it can be inclusive, I recommend the book 'Hoodoo for Everyone'

Excavated today from what I am coming to realise was the rather badly named "to be read" pile. These two books are what pushed me HARD down the path of doing back-end code only and avoiding all front-end work, something that I don't regret at all. My thanks to #AlexHomer and #ChrisUllman for the career guidance!

Book Talk 📚
I started and finished Remarkably Bright Creatures last weekend.
I really enjoyed every bit of it. It was one of those books where i scolded myself for reading it **too** fast.
50% mockup done. Am hoping for the other 50% complete today / tomorrow.
Then print Edition 0 for the Institute Archive and start releasing them into the wild.

Waited until today to unwrap my copy of 'Disco: Music, Movies, and Mania' by Frank DeCaro and featuring art by Norn. Great read so far, especially when listening to some disco alongside. Tonight's reading session brought to me by Cher, Freda Payne, and Sylvester. 🪩 :blobcatheadphones:

Praise to @clovercrowned.bsky.social for reading the edition of Carmilla edited by Carmen Maria Machado. Machado reclaims the story by adding a fictional prologue and includes amazing footnotes throughout.

Sometimes a line meets you in the wild, on someone else's feed, and you follow it home to the book it came from. That walk back is half the pleasure. Keeping the line once you arrive is the other half.
