#Manga artist Akihisa Ikeda, born OTD in 1976, has been a huge fan of vampires and monsters since he was a child https://toilet-guru.com/japan/gods-demons.html?s=mb #travel #Japan #horror

Strangeland is real bad, but in a way that is very enjoyable. Dee Snider's scenery chewing pseudointellectual monologues are so much fun and Robert Englund shows that nobody can chew more scenery than he can. Also, the 90s tech culture stuff is cringe in the best way like explaining what "IM" means.
Today's horror movie is about the most horrifying thing possible: 90's internet culture. Watching Dee Snider's Strangeland. Written by, produced by, and co-starring the Twisted Sister frontman a good decade+ after the peak of his career.

Suitable for the halloween season, a creepy orchestral piece, and chain saw, with a freer license now:

So this was *very* good. Self-contained prequel to Friday the 13th, i.e. Jason's origin story. Tense, gory and a bit melodramatic, but top shelf if #horror is your jam.
And they did a spectacular job with the production design and the costumes, bringing 1972 to life extremely well. Lots of era-appropriate cultural references.
Kind of a special, unique vibe.

The Movie DatabaseCrystal LakeSingle mother Pam Voorhees has been unable to shake her grief after her young, sickly son Jason tragically drowned in the town lake almost a year before. When two strangers arrive at Pam's door digging into her past, a disturbing chain of events is set into motion, leaving the townspeople of Crystal Lake wondering: just who is Pam Voorhees?
True crime was bringing me down too much today, so I decided to switch to a horror film instead. I went with Sleepwalkers cause I love a lot of Mick Garris projects, King films, and I've heard this film is very bonkers.

Just in time for #halloween — an IT #horror story. Nurses and other health workers default to WhatsApp for professional tasks, despite knowing it’s not secure, whatever policies are. Why? It’s easy, it’s where the people are, it works. But it risks patient data and non-compliance with privacy laws. Health professionals don’t need better policy — they need a better chat, #Matrix needs to become reachable, effortless, and invisibly secure. #MatrixConf follow along: https://conference.matrix.org/watch

I've been reading some #horror #books for Spooky Season, and then watching different versions of movies based on them. For example, Carrie, with the OG movie and the new mini series.
Currently reading Rosemary's Baby.
Which got me thinking: Are there any Fedi #bookclubs ?
Could get all fancy with a virtual hangout on a schedule, or just a time folks post their thoughts in a thread.
Anyone on #Bookstodon doing this? Or interested in doing this?
Pumpkinhead 2 wasn't great but it was kind of fun despite the puppetry being bad and the acting and writing quite broad. It is always fun to see Kane Hodder among the victims of a slasher.
It’s official: I’ve uploaded my #review of #StarTrekStrangeNewWorld episode, #TheGriffinIncident
It’s a fine piece of #TV #horror
But am I right?
If this aired on a #terrestrial station, would it have come with a #ContentWarning? Let me know
Oh to be a person who exclusively directs sequels to horror films. Watching Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings which was directed by Jeff Burr who also did TCM III, Stepfather 2, Puppet Master 4 and 5. A master of low budget sequels.

The new guy didn't know. He was young, and there was still some spark left in him, which made it hard, but it had to be.
Truce. That's the one rule behind the train station everyone tells you about. The badly insulated wall of the boiler room keeps the cold bearable, and the roof is tight enough to keep you dry, so we huddle up and endure each other, and get drunk, and sometimes forget who we are and laugh.
The other rule, the one that is only whispered about, the one that is arguably more important, is: No one gets on the midnight train. When you ask why you get looks or shrugs but nothing else, maybe you learn its nickname: the fright train. We're a clever bunch like that.
And then there's the unspoken rule. The rule you learn by shutting up and watching long enough. Someone has to get on the midnight train. Sometimes. When we get too friendly, when we share our food and booze with someone new, you chip in. You offer a snack or some weed, and let us do the talking.
