Me, after an hour long rant about nitrogen and perennial crops: "... but time's up. I suppose you all have to leave now. You don't have to disagree with me on agribusiness, plant breeding and nitrogen cycles though. Feel free to object, to rant back, or to simply disagree."
Students: "Nono. Do go on."
After 10 more minutes I send them out anyway. One of them stops to tell me it was a good class, so different from the others. I told him I'm glad he likes it - it was not the most happy topic.
That is when I love my job.
#Agriculture is still fascinating. The kids will be alright.

Today in the classroom:

First year chemistry's test went quite well yesterday - students will be pleased at progress from unit 1. We'll do a little periodic table investigation today to lead into the new unit using ptable.com

Web dev are working with more box model tasks. I provide incomplete code and they modify to fit a brief.

AP chem are taking their first test. It will probably be rough on many who haven't quite taken the class seriously yet.

“shortening teacher education programs risks reinforcing the mistaken belief that teaching does not require a lot of specialized preparation. Such a move may weaken recognition of teaching as a professional practice that must be developed over time, both among the public and among potential new recruits.”
