After my 2012 MacBook Air refused to boot from the internal disk just because I removed it to boot from USB (and then put it back how it was; I was updating the USB Linux install and removing every other possible disk is the only way to ensure GRUB doesn't scribble to the wrong disk), I'd gladly cosplay Hello Kitty with a sledgehammer

They're lucky I usually don't see any joy in destroying working things, no matter how cathartic.

I got an adapter so I could run a normal 2280 SATA SSD in there, and I was able to install another copy of Linux and have that boot fine.

Apple Inc. "UEFI" just got some hair up its ass about automatically booting from the shipped hardware (booting manually after using some GRUB rescue disk also worked)
