Yesterday we got informed that the #DEIB devroom at #fosdem which we pitched with @Gina @_elena got rejected.

The flood of positive messages we've received on mastodon over the past 24h gives me hope for an even more inclusive & diverse future of FOSS projects. FOSDEM is not mirroring the entire FOSS scene. I'm very grateful for all the support many of you are expressing. 🧡

@dentangle summarized it in a perfect way! The devroom *is* happening here because of YOU.

chaos.socialBrett Sheffield (he/him) (@[email protected])@[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] I think we need to look at the DEIB devroom at FOSDEM as piece of performance art. The DEIB devroom *is* happening. The rejection by FOSDEM is part of the performance. It makes an unequivocal statement on where we're at with Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging in 2026. Anywho, after Capgemini I joined Mama Cash which, as a feminist fund, was a breath of fresh air. I got to build their open source stack and started going to #FOSDEM.

"A sea of white men" would be an understatement. It was intimidating. I felt like such an imposter. Barely anyone looked like me. I remember being super impressed by a talk by @onepict 🫶

I really liked the #FOSS ecosystem. Sure, there were a few awkward encounters, but overall @fosdem always has a great vibe.

In honor of #FOSDEM rejecting our Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity, and Belonging (DEIB) track, and time permitting, I will be posting numbers about diversity in tech and my personal experiences in IT today.

Feel encouraged to share numbers and experiences as well ❤️

We had an inclusive coalition of organisations willing to sponsor speakers, we were designing cool "not a techbro" stickers, and just lots of cool ideas to platform #FOSS people we generally don't see at #FOSDEM.

At a time where female representation in #opensource is at 9.8% (let alone any other intersectionalities), tech bro culture is infiltrating open source projects, and marginalized communities increasingly rely on these FOSS alternatives, we thought this track would be a no brainer.

As I reflected on what I experienced at #FOSDEM, the idea of organizing a devroom dedicated to #diversity was born.

Together with @Gina @_elena we submitted the proposal to organise a #DEI devroom at #FOSDEM27. It got rejected. 😢💔

Every year we leave #FOSDEM inspired by the people we meet & the passion for #opensource. And every year we also find ourselves thinking about how much greater it could be if more people with different perspectives were part of those conversations.

An email notification regarding the rejection of the devroom proposal titled "Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging in FOSS" for FOSDEM 2027. The message emphasizes that the proposal was not accepted and aims to clarify previous communications.

After #FOSDEM 2026 #FDroid got the taste to mingle with users and meet you, our fans. So we had to come to #IndiaFOSS.

@fbinin got his stickers in line, t-shirts ironed and mousepads dusted.

Overall? I great time: https://f-droid.org/2026/10/02/fdroid-first-indiafoss-2026.html
