I made a quiet little thing for people who write online. Persistwise watches your blog's RSS feed and keeps three copies of every new post: a Wayback Machine snapshot, an IPFS pin, and a saved copy. You keep writing wherever you already do.

30 days free with no card, then $40 a year.

It's really nice to convert some of my old bike blog posts from HTML to clean Markdown because I actually get to read posts about past adventures that I had forgotten about. Like this 200k cross-border shopping trip: https://ride-or-pie.netlify.app/2020/08/just-across-border

It does make me a little sad about sitting at home with a broken elbow rather than going on new adventures.

One Persistwise detail that might surprise people: each post gets captured once, the first time it shows up in your feed. Fix a typo later and the archived copy still has the typo lol. A record that keeps changing wouldn't be much of a record though

Finally finished @pluralistic 's Acclaimed book #Enshittification, pictured here uncoincidentally alongside my other current read, "Don Quixote".

Liked it enough to make a review this week's blog post.

Sorry about the roughed up book. It traveled with me a lot, but didn't obscure the title.

Is it just me, or does it feel sometimes like there's something more "formal" about the medium of text (e.g., blogs) over alternative mediums like video or audio (vlogs, podcasts, etc)?

I feel like I have a lot of ideas and concepts that I probably wouldn't feel so bad about whipping up and putting out in a single afternoon as a vlog or something (if that was my medium), but which I don't feel so comfortable pushing out as a blog, because it's not polished enough.

Anyone else have similar experiences? Do you think the feeling is justified or just a silly bias that we have?

folderblog 0.2.7 is out, and the folder that's your blog can now be a podcast. Drop episodes in podcast/ and it builds the show and episode pages plus a feed for Apple Podcasts and Podcasting 2.0. Audio goes to Cloudflare R2 on deploy, and there's an MCP server so an AI agent can draft episodes but only publishes when you say yes.

The Word from Nine Point Labsfolderblog 0.2.7: Your blog can be a podcast nowfolderblog turns a folder of Markdown into a live blog the moment you save. Four releases since the last word here, 0.2.4 through 0.2.7, and the big one is 0.2.6: the same folder can now publish a podcast, with a proper feed, hosted audio, and a way for an AI agent to help without ever publishing…

From the bench, a small Persistwise fix. If the page download for a new post failed, the post was marked failed and never retried, so it never got its IPFS copy. Now it tries again with longer waits in between, and if the saved file goes missing later, the pin step downloads it again.

The Archive page got plainer too. Each copy shows a short status like "Wayback: trying again" or "IPFS: pinned", and a post only says archived once both copies exist.

Yesterday, a flaky test took me on a debugging journey.

A test that fails seemingly randomly and never when you're focusing on just that test can be a difficult one to pin down.

I wrote a blog post about how I approached the situation and narrowed down the case to where I was able to consistently make it fail or succeed — and then find out why it did so and eventually fix it.

Juha-Matti Santala - Community Builder. Dreamer. Adventurer.Debugging a flaky test — how I methodologically tamed an annoying bugI spent a nice afternoon on Thursday to debug a seemingly flaky test. Following a methodology that doesn’t rely on assumptions or prior knowledge of the codebase, I managed to narrow down the culprit and work from there to create a fix.

I decided to write about how I turned a YAML file into a Jekyll collection, using a bash script!

For this month's #IndieWebCarnival, @immarisabel invited us to write about Pages.

My favourite pages are the blank ones in a fresh new pocket notebook. Nothing beats the feeling of starting a new one and dreaming of all the wonderful thoughts and adventures its pages will witness.

I've been #writing a personal private journal for years. I also started #blogging in its early days, and I still blog (though likely not as much).

Survey #AISlop findings not as encouraging IMHO.

Seems for some stupid reason, a solution looking for a problem, wordpress DOT com decided to take away the classic editor option for that shitty pain in the ass "blocks" structure they seem to go ga ga over.

Why services insist on fucking with something that works fine already is beyond me.

Even Blogger maintains the classic/wysiwyg editor because it works (for now).
