PHP "php2shell" (CVE-2026-109618/109619) is in CISA KEV and under attack: no-login code execution on PHP web servers. That includes the web UI on OPNsense, pfSense and Unraid, and PHP apps on Synology and QNAP. Update to PHP 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 or 8.2.35 (or the vendor update), then restart PHP.

Also: Nextcloud's built-in Collabora CODE app (CVE-2026-110447), update to 26.4.303.

This week's issue:

Patch or PassPatchOrPass #2: PHP php2shell exploit, patch now. Plus Nextcloud CollaboraTwo PHP flaws are under attack, and PHP runs the web interface on OPNsense, pfSense, Unraid and many NAS apps. Update PHP first, then the built-in Collabora app in Nextcloud.

OpenCloud is the continuation of ownCloud Infinite Scale, written in Go, with an Apache 2.0 server and no CLA. I set it up with Docker Compose, local storage, and NGINX Proxy Manager, then added Tika for full text search and Euro Office for document editing. Do note the NPM gotcha: turn off Block Common Exploits for that host or the desktop client fails with a 403.

I've been trying out BookOrbit, a self-hosted library for ebooks, PDFs, comics, and audiobooks that runs with Docker and PostgreSQL. It's AGPL-3.0 with browser readers built in, and it can hook into OPDS readers, Kobo sync, and KOReader. I wrote up my Docker Compose setup pinned to v3.1.0 along with a hardlink gotcha I hit with Book Dock.

Well it's taken much longer than I wanted, but I've finally automated a tiny portion of my #homelab. Following this guide, but after getting the tooling vm working once with a bunch of console work and a bit of GUI, strung all that together in a script and worked through getting it so I'm only one script away.

This was one of those. I lost web for five hours; my mother-in-law texted to ask if I could fix it.

But nothing irreversible happened. I'd bounded the risk with backups, locks and logs, so the worst case was an afternoon, not a catastrophe. I learned something, and the system has new safeguards.

If we're going to live on the cutting edge, we accept we might get cut. The job is making sure the injuries are the kind you recover from, not the kind that kill you.

After several failed attempts, I've finally managed to get a viable Opencode loop working with a local model: Qwen3.8-27b (Q4_K_M).

Tool calling is much more stable than configuration that I tested before (OK, Ling-3.0-tiny, one of the more recent Chinese models with 8b parameters, was also quite stable).

This is certainly less performant than commercial services, e.g., Copilot with a model like Gemini, but pushing the limit is part of the fun, isn't it?

I've upgraded my inference machine (11th gen Core i7, 32GB RAM, fast storage), installed Incus (Zabbly stable) and use a Debian 13 container as the Opencode sandbox; llama-swap has learned a few new tricks, too. My two RTX 3060 are humming along, crunching numbers.

After my #homelab machine died on Monday, today the PSU of one of my switches kicked the bucket. That is in addition to the already flaky WiFi repeater that keeps taking down my entire home network every few weeks for some reason.

Maybe I should really consider redoing my entire network with better hardware 😅. But I’m planning to wait until I need to buy a new router for the fiber connection I will hopefully be getting next year.

Still, I would really appreciate a week or two without tech issues.

Hi Fediverse! 👋 Serverküche is a small site with self-hosting tutorials – from a freshly ordered VPS to a full stack with Traefik, backups, monitoring, mail and SSO. Every guide is tested on a real server before it goes up, in German and English.
New articles will show up here automatically; replies and questions are read and answered by a human. Ask away!

I’ve started logging all the changes I make to my computers and servers.

Why? Because I suffer from CRS*.

I am keeping the logs in Joplin, but if the Fediverse has a simpler or better suggestion, I’m open to it.

*CRS: Can’t Remember Shit. If you or a loved one has a hard time remembering what you did 10 minutes ago, or can’t recall the name of the person you met 5 seconds ago, you too may have CRS.
